What is the fascination with adding flavoring to Liquor, especially Bourbon Whiskey ?

I go in to pick up some Ezra Brooks or Four Roses and the shelves are all cluttered up with Cinnamon, Jalapeno, Honey, Cherry, and God only knows what flavored Whiskey. Any flavored Whiskey connoisseurs here ?

Could be I guess, but some of my younger male co-workers drink the stuff, I tried some "Herbal Infused" type at their behest. I decided the only think I wanted infusing my Bourbon was a couple of three ice cubes.

Whipped cream Vodka is a new one on me, do you mix it ? Or does it come that way in the bottle ?

I'm not a whisky drinker unless you count scotch. I do drink scotch and carbonated (not flavored) water occasionally. I want scotch to taste like scotch, thank you.

I have that same question about beer. What's with using hops that taste like grapefruit an other citrus? Then there are all the other flavors that are touted in the some of the psuedo micro brews. I want been to taste like beer, not grapefruit juice or lemonade.

I figure it's all to entice younger drinkers. Heck I remember when I actually liked Cold Duck, rose, Riesling, and other sweet wines. Not anymore. The dryer the better.

It comes that way. Says Whipped Cream on the bottle and tastes remarkably like whip cream. Pinnacle brand (French vodka) is her favorite. Available at Specs and Total Wine Liquors. Several companies make that flavor and about 20 others. Vodka is one of the favorites to flavorize.

That must be the Boone's Farm crowd that's drinking that stuff.
I always drank Old Grand-Dad straight and chased it with water.
I stopped drinking about 15 years ago.

The only good tasting liquor I've encountered is a French vodka is called Old Barrel. They age their vodka in cognac casks. It's light carmel colored and to my taste very smooth.

Regarding scotch, i went to a free tasting of single malts several weeks ago. There were four that were dated 2003, 99,90,and 83 plus a super special from 1969. They said the 69 runs about $2000.00 a bottle and was easily the worst tasting of the lot. My tongue liked the 99 at about $300.00 a bottle. Operative word here was free, I didn't even consider purchasing any.
