Food they don't sell anymore

Postby crocmommy » Thu Oct 08, 2015 9:31 am

Found out this morning that Jack in the Box has discontinued their Croissant Donuts (fried like donuts but with croissant dough). They were really good and I'll miss them....hope maybe I can find them somewhere else.

Anything that you liked eating that you can't buy anymore?

Can't think of anything, but I can think of a lot of things I used to eat that I no longer or rarely eat now.

I like their Extreme Sausage egg and cheese sandwich , I'll get 3 of them a couple times a year along with their cheese , steak fries . Also like their fried tacos , 2 for a buck , I spend 3 bucks . Haven't had either for quite awhile so thanks for the reminder .

My wife and I really like sweetbreads and have about 20# in the freezer. With all the situations we have been handling for the last 6 months or so we have not cooked any. Maybe some time in the next few weeks.

Is this the kind of sweetbreads you're talking about?

Sweetbreads or ris are culinary names for the thymus (also called throat, gullet, or neck sweetbread) or the pancreas (also called heart, stomach, or belly sweetbread), especially of calf (ris de veau) and lamb (ris d'agneau), and, less commonly, of beef and pork.[

I haven't seen Hog Head Cheese sold in years. It was sometimes called Souse.
I don't really miss it, but I've eaten sandwiches made with it that weren't bad.

I is hard to find, but still around. And it really isn't that bad. In the South it seems to be called Souse.

Have you ever had Liver Pudding ?

Boars Head makes a head cheese that I buy every now and then at Kroger's. I like it cut a bit thicker than normal lunch meat and just pick up a piece and eat it by pulling pieces off. Have never used it on a sandwich. My dad and grandpa used to make head cheese so I guess eating the newer version is my connection to their memories.

Never heard of 'em but they have a whole preservation society and multiple recipes online. http://www.spacefoodsticks.com/

Makes me think of another thing I don't think is around anymore - ice cream push ups. Ya know, the ice cream that was in a cardboard cylinder with a cardboard disc and a stick to push the ice cream up? Those were very good and pretty much leak proof. No wait, I just googled them and apparently they still exist. Makes me want one right now.

Oh, and how 'bout Dreamsicles?

And while we're at it - Dr. Pepper and Coke with cane sugar instead of corn syrup.

Who would have thought? I actually recall those things as being pretty nasty. :o

I do remember the ice cream pushups, though I was more of a popsicle guy.

Ding Dongs fresh out of the toaster oven were the best.

Grouchy,
To the untrained bystander, that sounds pretty gross.
How did you ever start eating that?
