Once again, I'm with Ann on this one. It's all about being considerate to the one you love. There are many many many things I do for Bob for that reason and vice versa.

I put on disposable gloves to clean the toilet but it would be expensive if I had to put the seat down every time I have to go 'CAUSE I WOULD PUT GLOVES ON! You're not very considerate of your wife OR worse, your mother-in-law. I'd have been on you like a duck on a june bug for every one of those years of marriage. I never want to see you post on this board "Me,Me, Me!" again, Greg.

I do know Jami's husband and he is a considerate and kind man, besides being fun.

My wife has never cared either way about where the seat is.

As for my mother in law..the subject has never come up with her either..she's 84 and never seems to forget to look where she's sitting..neither did my own mother in her last weeks of life when SHE was living here.

I don't understand the "me me me" comment..or the comment about Jami's husband..I didn't know he was a topic of discussion.

Excellent point, bodine. Perhaps it is, in part, a regional thing.

It's fun to have fun with the subject..but I do think it is not all that uncommon for women to be horrendously over the top on this issue..which is why I consider it akin to a mental disorder.

Perhaps at your house it is just about "consideration"...but as Ralph pointed out..that would involve considering whoever the next person is..which might be a male.

Seat down, lid either way... but then I haven't cohabitated with a man in many many years

Putting the lid down isn't just a matter of courtesy: it's a matter of being sanitary. When a toilet is flushed, "particulate matter" is released into the air and travels 6 feet or more:

And if it's simply about being kind considerate, there wouldn't BE a rule.

they'll be annoyed when they are all in the outhouse with spiders at 3am with a candle or lantern and some leaves that have premium moisture content . What I just described is going on in some third world countries all over the world . Or a chamber pot , talk about sanitary . I'll be in the woods over by some big tree or behind the barn during the day and I'll have my empty bleach bottle for overnight if I need it on a beer drinking Saturday evening .

I'm thankful I don't understand any of that!

My husband is outnumbered at our house 3 to 1. He told someone that the only ones with balls in his house were him and the cat. Uh...I begged to differ....had that taken care of on the cat many years ago. But I digress...he sort of has his own restroom, so I don't understand why he keeps using the one that me and two girls use. The lid WILL be left down in our bathroom.

You mean..it's not just him being.."considerate?"

Thanks for the clarity and confirmation.

I have one friend that has told me about the reasons why people should should keep the lids closed. He's a bit of a knucklehead. As far as I know, no one else I know has the same view.

But I did read some of the article..it sounded only half serious.

Either way, wrestling with TWO lids, is not something I want to do.

I fully accept the germs in my life.

Yep, germs and jerks are 2 things it's pretty much impossible to get rid of.

I can believe there are "air borne particles" coming from those industrial toilets that sound like a jet taking off when they flush. I don't believe the same thing happens with standard toilets.

fighting germs makes your immune system healthy !! in other news , I generally clean the toilet with any detergent available , usually liquid Tide or similar . I use a non marring scrubbie to clean out the bowl and then wipe the whole toilet down with 100 proof rubbing alcohol . Alcohol dries streak free and clean and kills germs . No gloves used .
