a bunch of PO'ed mama cows.

Postby grouchy » Thu Nov 12, 2015 8:55 am

Yesterday I took two loads of youngun's with some older pairs to the auction in West.
At least three times last night I woke up to the sound of mama cows passing the house mooing for their their missing calves.

I always sell at West. Prices are not nearly as good as they were last year, but if I factored in the cost of feeding them all winter it made sense to me to sell.

As a consumer, I am sumwhat surprised to hear cattlemen saying the prices are down. I didn't/haven't seen a dip in retail prices of beef at my local Kroger in quite some time. Splain that, iffin you can please.

If you and the rest for the world are still willing to pay the prices..the prices are where they should be.

If you're willing to buy the meat even at higher prices..the prices will go up more..and should.

If you stop buying meat because the prices are too high..the prices will come down..and should.

Capitalism is the simplest and most logical system in the world..if not interfered with from the government.

From what I hear, average folks are really tired of $3.79 for a pound of ground beef.

Yes, I believe in supply /demand, but something else is keeping the prices inflated. Someone mentioned greed ?

Silly word to try understand what you're experiencing.

If average folks don't like the cost of ground beef..they should not buy it.

I don't like the cost of Ferraris..love to have one.

So you think it's okay for poor people to eat and feed their kids pasta because it's what they can afford because meat prices should be as high as the "market" will bear??????????? Cold.

I repeat - greed!

:D ------- naw , give the kids beans , a little meat as seasoning , brown rice , vegetables and people should learn to cook . Many of these milenials eat out of bags and feed their kids the same slop out of bags .

So, the price for goods that a business should charge needs to be based on what the poorest people can pay for it?

Oh yes, that's a great economic plan.

What kind of work do you or did you do?

------------------------------------------------------------------ and that's 100% correct , healthy foods are cheap basic foods and are as close to unprocessed and unrefined as possible . Brown rice plus other grains , beans , vegetables and meat as seasoning . People just don't know how to cook anymore !!

Some people deserve to reap the fruits of their idiocy by living under the Socialism they espouse.

In this Country, our problem in general isn't high food prices, it is obesity.

Cattle prices are soft because the boxed beef demand is way soft. A 1300 pound steer in the feedlot has to be moved pretty quick. The boxed beef can sit for some time until demand goes up, but that makes buyers backup in regards to buying a bunch of cattle. Wheat isn't ready for a grazing just yet, the drought and the rain have delayed planting and torn in.
Cattle numbers are too low for prices to drop much and demand is not any weaker. The calf that was bringing 1350 is now bringing about 900. Ain't bad but when not too long ago they brought 350 on a good day.
