Sorry, y'all. It ain't never going back to what it was ...

Folks, the world has changed and it will never go back to what it was.
We will likely fight wars we don't want to fight, we will have lots of new
neighbors we don't want, food will be more scare and will cost a lot more,
disease might thrive as our antibiotics increasingly fail, and the challenge
of the Pacific Rim will grow exponentially.
What's my point? We might want to amend our view of the future.
it probably won't be a cozy as we might hope.
Case in point: the movement of Spanish and Portuguese people will not be
slowed any more than the ones already here are going to be forced to
leave.
Consequences: there are always some.
If we were to send 'hispanics' back, it would be a greater humanitarian
crisis than is happening in Europe now. And, if their neighborhoods grow
as they have elsewhere, caucasian Americans may become, not the
second place in population, but third.
It's going to happen. Even a devastating war won't change that. It will not
and many of you know that.
People in the future: more than seven billion of us and how many billions of us
are unimaginably poor?
Water in the future: a great deal hinges on the availability of water (yes
I mean water) The richest vein of water is Canada and I expect we are
second. Whether there's climate change going on or not (it is!), the world
is way down the road of hotter and drier. Folks and critters will gather
around the water holes and that's the truth. As our west dries out, we
are gonna see more folks moving east.
Money in the future: it's not necessarily as bad as the more
apocalyptic or dystopian among among us, but a few more Greece's
out there damage the entire economy ... there ain't enough money,
men and women to build a wall at our southern exposure. It's
absurd. We have thousands of bridges to replace first unless we
want to read about granny going in the drink.
The Military in the future: there is no way we can support a
military that can keep the peace in the Pacific alone. And some of
you suggest we can kick butts (or bomb) into submission. The
Middle East, China, Russia (back from the dead), Africa, and how
about that South America? Do we really want to leave that many
of our children's boots on someone else's ground?
And I've only just gotten started. Of course we're mean and green
and we can do a whale of a lot. But we cannot, absolutely cannot,
put an end to population dislocation and keep the world peace.
I can't believe y'all don't see that. Leonard Cohen said, "I've seen
the future and it's murder!
