BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Country music legend, and Oildale native, Merle Haggard has passed away on his birthday. He was 79-years-old.

A sad day.

Merle had part of a lung removed (part of cancer treatment) seven or eight years ago.

Listening to KOKE FM here in Austin this morning. Morning show host Bob Cole said he was probably in his last days. Sadly he was right.

Our late guitarist, Brad Lloyd, was a lifelong friend of Hag's longtime lead guitarist, Clint Strong. Brad always referred to Hag as "Ole Goldy-throat".

A friend posted on David Gold's FB "I don't want to live in a world without Merle Haggard and with Donald Trump." It struck me as true.
