I only remember feral hogs becoming a problem in the last few years. I have started getting them on the game camera on my land only in the last few months, although I had seen a good bit of sign before.

My current one is a Primos 12MP Proof Cam 02 HD. It has no bells and whistles but it takes good video by night or day (I only use the video setting). The one I had before this was a Bushnell 8MP Trophy and the same was true of it. I always set up in an area where I get video in a natural setting, and the result is that I have lost several cameras in sudden rises of streams. I found that with both models during daylight you get a lot of false activations caused by the wind blowing leaves or the surface of water, or even from shifting shadows. The heat-activated night sensor never falses, although you may not be able to see the creature.

Wonder if I could use one to get a shot of the wild animal that is messing with mailboxes in my neighborhood?

I guess this is another Texas thing.

I do know people with "security" cameras..but that's for break ins and to make sure there are no bums sleeping in the back yard.

Yes. Trick is to get it positioned to make the action trigger the camera.

We use ours to see what critters are hanging around the back of our property.
Currently we have raccoons and possums. The fox family has moved down the block. We have not seen a coyote on the camera in a couple of years, but I am sure the coyotes are still out there.
