FORT WORTH — A man arrested Tuesday on accusations that he snuck through a doggy door to burglarize a Ryan Place home earlier this month is also under investigation for several other burglaries in central and west Fort Worth, police officials said Wednesday.
The 19-year-old suspect, whose name and mug shot police have not been released because of the ongoing investigation, was being held in the Mansfield jail Wednesday, facing charges in at least one burglary and evading arrest.
Fugitive and patrol officers tried to arrest the man Tuesday afternoon at his Fort Worth home on a burglary warrant. The suspect fled, running from his backyard and scaling several fences before being caught.
The warrant stems from the May 4 burglary of a home in the 2700 block of Sixth Avenue.
Residents told police they returned home from church to find jewelry missing.
“The residents also stated that they believed that the suspect had come in through the doggy door because there were no signs of forced entry,” a press release issued by the department Wednesday states.
Video cameras at the residence captured images of the burglar looking into the family’s back door and later inside the house.
Police disseminated the video through the department.
“Within a few days a patrol officer called central detectives and gave them the name of a possible suspect based on the video,” the release states. “Detectives then researched the suspect and identified some of his associates.”
Police said the associates were then interviewed and positively identified the suspect from the video.
“During the investigation, west side officers and detectives contacted central division to tell them that they believed they had several related burglaries. In one of the west side burglaries detectives were able to connect physical evidence to the same suspect,” the release states.
