I was really surprised by a comment made on the Ticket this afternoon. They said with Gallo and Pence coming back and some of the other younger spare parts guys playing well Cabrera could be odd man out after Detroit. I checked Evan Grant's twitter and he's saying the same thing.

Man, Cabrera was sure passing the eye test for me.

Who else is going to play third base? Gallo doesn't want to, and he's been very vocal about it. Forsythe is not an every day third baseman.

Who?

The Rangers have activated Joey Gallo for tonight's game in Detroit.

Willie Calhoun just scored from second base on a sacrifice fly.

Pretty casual play in the outfield with a fast runner on second.

Tonight's game should be interesting. The Devil Rays played 18 innings last night and used 9 pitchers.

I expect they'll make several roster moves today to get some fresh arms in the bullpen. The way they use their pitching staff puts a lot of pressure on the pen to begin with. An 18 inning game only makes matters worse. They haven't been the least bit shy about moving guys up and down as needed.

I don't recall ever seeing that before.

Did you see Willie Mays Hayes score from second on a bunt in "Major League?"

Sure enough, the Rays made a couple of pitching moves today. Jalen Beeks and 3B Michael Brosseau are headed to Durham. Pitchers Jose Alvarado and Casey Sadler are meeting the team in Tampa.

Casey Sadler's stint with the Rays lasted one day. He has been designated for assignment to make room to add two way star Brendan McKay to the roster so he can start today's game.

I wish they had let Lynn finish the game. The Devil Rays didn't appear to have much in the tank.

There are some things you just can't understand. How does an athlete in the prime of his life just die? I guess we'll have to wait for a determination.

This takes me right back to 2009, when 22 year old Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in a car crash the same night he threw six shutout innings in his season debut.

I haven't seen any speculation anywhere online yet either. I have my thoughts but it would just be a WAG at this point and not in good taste.

I saw some speculation on FB, but I don't think it's worth repeating.

Tonight's game may also be cancelled. It's still up in the air. From what I am hearing, the Rangers are leaving it up to the Angels whether they play or not.

The Rangers organization, and GM Jon Daniels in particular, are getting high praise from the national MLB media for their handling of this situation.

You think baseball players in hotels on the road had trouble sleeping last night?

And that's a guy with very low mileage on his arm.

Update on a former Ranger...

The Oakland A's have benched Jurickson Profar. They recalled Franklin Barreto to be their every day second baseman. Profar has positional flexibility, so he will get playing time when other guys get days off, but he is no longer an every day starter.

Profar's agent Scott Boras should not have shut out the Rangers when he was approached about an extension for Profar. That is the reason the Rangers traded him, and his value has now fallen. Boras has cost Profar a lot of money.
