Ross Perot, self-made billionaire, renowned patriot and two-time independent candidate for U.S. president, has died after a five-month battle with leukemia.

The pioneer of the computer services industry, who founded Electronic Data Systems Corp. in 1962 and Perot Systems Corp. 26 years later, was just 5-foot-6, but his presence filled a room.

Back when Mr. Perot was running for President, AMS Productions shot his commercials in their facilities in Dallas. My brother was employed as a videographer/rigger/grip/etc. and got to know Mr. Perot pretty well. So much so that his daughter (my niece) was the baby in his national television commercials.

Mr. Perot even came to my brother's house for her birthday party. I actually met him in the yard to direct him into the house. He drove himself in an non-descript mini-van.

An interesting man, to say the least.

I think there is a group picture somewhere. My brother is famous for taking hundreds of pictures at family events, and we never see any of them.

That's why I make sure to take my own. I find it amazing how many kid birthday parties I have come to where NO ONE is taking pictures. I just pull out my phone and start taking some. Why spend all that money on a party and not take any pictures?

He was also a graduate of one of the best schools in America, The United States Naval Academy. President of the class of 1953.

This was way before phones in cameras. My brother shot the whole thing with broadcast quality video cameras, and took tons of stills with a high quality SLR.

I had a camera, but I didn't want to bother Mr. Perot.
