Carlos Carrasco, starting pitcher for the Cleveland Indians, has been sidelined since late May with an undisclosed blood condition. It is now being reported that he has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Ranger all-star news:

1. On a rehab assignment earlier this week, Hunter Pence aggravated his injury. He has withdrawn from the all-star game.

2. Mike Minor will be Sunday's starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is therefore disqualified from pitching in the all-star game. I believe he'll still make the trip.

3. Joey Gallo has declined his invitation to participate in the home run derby. This is great news for Ranger fans.

Hmm. Palumbo will get the start Sunday. I have no idea what this means for Minor's all-star status. I believe his replacement on the roster has already been named.

ETA: I don't want to get swept by the Twins, but that appears likely now. The all-star break comes at a good time for the Rangers. The last 10 days before the break haven't been kind.

Astros lack quality starting pitching beyond Verlander, Cole, and Miley. I wish they could have kept Morton, he is having a great season for Tampa Bay.
The rookies they have been trotting out there are an arson squad, creating a fire and then trying to put it out with gasoline.

I expect they will try to acquire a starter or two before the trade deadline.

JD doesn't rule out making a deadline deal to trade Mike Minor. JD doesn't rule out anything. He'll consider anything to make the team better now or in the future. There are no sacred cows.

I thought Peter Fairbanks was a keeper, but the Rangers have traded him to the Rays for Nick Solak. Solak plays all over the infield and outfield, and is a top 100 prospect in MLB. He'll most likely report to Nashville.

The Rangers optioned Willie Calhoun to Nashville yesterday to make room on the roster for Hunter Pence.

They considered sending down Nomar Mazara and Ronald Guzman.

Some very ugly losses. The team appears to be in total collapse. If they don't get it turned around very quickly, some guys will surely get traded while their value is high.

All three of his July starts have been subpar. If the Rangers are going to trade him and get maximum value, they need to do it before the league figures out he's hit a wall. They probably already know it.
