I don't think Obama is stupid,I believe he is so out of touch with reality, no one, even senior staff can reason with him.
He has gone from, I don't negotiate with anyone, to, Here hold my beer and watch this
His latest antics with Bergdahl has even democrats and liberal news outlets questioning his reasons, liberals who are trying to defend him are just having to dodge any questions,but instead have to resort to We don't leave American soldiers behind.

What could be his motive in this historically bad trade? Empty Gitmo just to say he did it? Bolster the dem base for the up-coming elections.Show the world he can do as he pleases?

That's a great suggestion! My suggestion was to stop all mail from the USA to Mexico. It would decimate their economy even more. But the damage to Mexicans receiving the money orders would probably make the Mexican government sit up and take notice.
