Did the recruiter promise him anything?

I hope he gets it. Recruiters are notorious for promising more than they can deliver. That old "needs of the service" clause.

I wonder how many languages he will have to learn.

There are numerous aspects that will be available. He is very excited.

You are correct about the "needs of the service" clause. I was supposed to be a nuclear weapons tech. Turns out that I had a "Heck of a fist" and became a high speed code operator.

I'm guessing the term "spook" has been eradicated from the Navy vocabulary.

Possibly, but I doubt it.

He will be going to Great Lakes for boot camp and then NAS Pensacola for school. I am glad he will be able to avoid San Diego.

Congrats to your grandson.

I drove thru San Diego about 2 hours ago,

So I'll ask what's wrong with San Diego for your grandsons' service in the Navy ?
It's ok if you disagree with me.
I can't force you to be right.

Just a poor attempt at humour. The California thing.

How are your folks doing?

I was worried San Diego had a bad reputation for the field your grandson is wanting to be trained.

Parents are great.

This was a surprise trip, my dad needed primers and powder , I found some and we made the drive out to deliver .

Pop just bought a side-by-side 12 gauge and will be loading shot shells for the first time. He's done centerfielder for 70 years.

San Diego is not a Navy town anymore. At best the Navy's presence is tolerated.
