Secret Service director has resigned

Postby LibraryLady » Wed Oct 01, 2014 2:38 pm

...as well she should.

She has only had the position a year, and obviously I think we need to start with a lot of new agents.
Some incredibly lax security has been provided and awful "lack of doing job" in the past 3-4 years.

Ditto

This is what happens when an amateur appoints his cronies and their friends.

I can remember when the Secret Service was absolutely a top notch organization. Having been attached to Main Navy dispensary in D.C., I made trips to the white house during Kennedy and Johnson administrations, not just for medical things. I went along with a friend who was a Navy Photo interpreter, but while still in that category, she also took photos of the Kennedy and Johnson families. Since I was cleared, I went along to help her set up. While cordial, the secret service was also very alert. What a shame that such a crack organization has become so tarnished.

I'll tell you my opinion. I think the thing ruined the morale and performace of the SS is the same thing that ruined it for the rest of the federal govt. Revese discrimination.
When you are told that as a white male you will be given last consideration for promtion. If there is a qualified woman or minority they will promoted regardless of your qualifications and job performance. That's what destroyed their morale.

Ann, I think you fell for the myth.

The night before Kennedy was shot, half of his Secret Service detail was drunk all night in Forth Worth.

Johnson disliked them so much, he wanted to get rid of them and let the FBI take over protecting the President.

I don't think so.
The Secret Service wasn't worth a damn even before all the affirmative action started.

I was THERE and every secret service officer that I met was vigilant while being professional. It's NOT a myth to me since I observed them with my own eyes numerous times. Did you observe them at any time? Or did you read a book?
Granted there are many changes in technology since then. They checked each any every time we were called for a medical reason...we were in a Navy ambulance, had our ID's on and they checked each and everyone of the crew in and out and were escorted at all times. No, I never attended a SS party or saw any person that even smelled of alcohol or acted drunk. I DO know that they protected every patient we were treating. The same happened when I went with the photographer.

"What should have been the biggest scandal took place in November of 1963. Secret Service agents, including ones who were supposed to be guarding President Kennedy’s hotel room in Ft. Worth, spent the night at “The Cellar,” a Ft. Worth club where the waitresses served drinks in their underwear. Some of them were out until 5 a.m. drinking alcohol, according to their own sworn statements.

One of them, agent Clint Hill, was the one running to catch up to the presidential limousine the next day after an assassin’s bullet tore through the president’s head.

Some of the agents had bragged to the club’s owner that they were out partying while the Ft. Worth Fire Department was left to guard the president."

Yes, I worked with them a couple of times when Reagan was president. The only thing that impressed me was their arrogance, lack of common sense and incompetence.
