Gov. Perry tries to whip us into a frenzy and panic

Postby LibraryLady » Mon Oct 06, 2014 11:14 am

Definition of pandemic:
occurring over a wide geographic area and affecting an exceptionally high proportion of the population <pandemic malaria>

Gov. Perry is announcing his plans on how to handle an ebola pandemic.
But--I thought just this weekend the authorities said they have it under control and we won't have an epidemic, let alone a pandemic.

Geez, make up your mind.......Anything for camera time!!

I'm glad someone is taking some responsible action to make sure it doesn't become a pandemic.

+1. If he were quiet on the subject, he would also be criticized.

Many medical personel, including prominent doctors and nurses, have died from this disease in Africa. I remember reading a few years ago about an African doctor who died from ebola when he was called in to examine a patient in the middle of the night; in his drowsy state he did not properly garb himself and contracted the disease from airborne viruses. It is a lot easier to contract than CDC is letting on.

If this man were here today, I think he would applaud Perry for his "lets get ready" approach, instead of the path of someone like Clay "i'll go hang out in the sick guys' apartment" Jenkins .

So I went to the trouble of looking up what Perry is suggesting. Here are the steps he suggest (which, by the way, he does not confine to Ebola):

1. The creation of the Task Force on Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response. It will be overseen by Dr. Brett Giroir, who's the CEO of Texas A&M Health Science Center.

2. Perry also called on federal officials to implement screening procedures at all U.S. points of entry. Screeners would take the temperature of travelers and conduct other assessments to determine their overall health.

3. Development of rapid-response plans when an outbreak is confirmed in the state. "We have learned a lot about the unique challenges of situations like this," Perry said, adding that it's "important to adapt our responses" to the realities posed by the Ebola virus.

So what is panic inducing about this? Sounds very logical to me.

Does anyone disagree with any of these steps? If anything I think they should be tougher than he suggest.

A Spanish nurse who had never been to Africa, but who helped treat an ebola patient in Spain, has tested positive for the disease.

I would never criticize Perry for keeping his mouth shut on any subject.

Our government is trying to avoid a panic by revealing just how contagious this disease is. The head of the CDC makes it sound like you've got to slather yourself from head to toe in an infected persons blood or saliva before you can get it.

Doesn't work that way. The Internet is your friend. Search, read and decide for yourself.

The case of the nurse with ebola has been officially confirmed. Both Spanish missionaries who returned to Spain to be treated died.

Yes, I saw that. Now here is the question: This was a nurse in a first-world country who knows about the dangers and transmissions regarding Ebola. One may safely assume that she took such precautions and was still infected. Now how is is that a nurse, actively protecting herself, contracted this "hard to catch" disease?

Maybe it is not as "hard to catch" as some government officials would have us believe.

I'm glad Perry is making plans because, I too agree that we're being led down the garden path by the CDC. They think we're so unsophisticated that we'll go screaming in the streets, I guess. Maybe some are complacent with what information they're feeding us. I believe they're leaving a lot out of the info they're feeding us. After all, the World Health Organization of the UN failed miserably in the attempts to contain it. Now that is supposed to be the crack team in the world on contagious diseases.

Some here don't think Gov. Perry can do anything right. It does boil down to that.

I just saw "whip us into panic" and it's right across from my name. Is it OK to go back to my training and have concern that it will spread? Mr. Duncan DID lie on his paperwork to get here. You really think everyone is going to be truthful and NOT try to board a plane to a country that has higher sanitary standards, better healthcare, etc.? I have no faith in our own government anymore. We've been lied to over and over and over.

Oh Horse Shit !

Two weeks ago your "authorities" including the POSPOTUS were telling use Ebola in the US was unlikely !

I am no great fan of Perry but his actions seem prudent, and beats anything thing out of the CDC or the other African Virus sitting in the Oval Office.

Waiting until there is an actual emergency, if there is, to come up with a plan to deal with it is not responsible governing IMO.

Taking temperature at the airports? That's just BS!
Perry wouldn't know a "pandemic" if it bit him in the ass.

Here's what a pandemic is.

I agree with that view of Perry generally, but not in this case or the border invasion.

To put a plan in force to be able to confront any situation, be it health concern, or prolonged power outage is not grandstanding.
It's a joke son,I say a joke
