Re: Bob Wills - without a websearch
Oh, I guess I need to go to the next thread. Yes I've heard of him and very much admire his place in history but I'm not a country music fan. One of my great uncles played in his band, according to my sister.
Working to love my fellow person regardless : >
Re: Bob Wills - without a websearch
Fair enough, but he did not restrict his music to C&W.

Yes, I know who he is.
Do you know who Milton Brown is/was?
Do you know the name of the flour mill in Ft. Worth that gave Wills his start?
Do you know which Ft. Worth hotel Wills lived in when he wrote San Antonio Rose?

Yes I do Milton Brown probably influenced Bob more than Bob did Milton, unfortunately Milton died very young in 1936
Burris Mills - We are the Light Crust Doughboys from Burris Mills
I will have to guess at the Hotel - The Baker ?

Wills had taken Brown's wife away from him shortly before Brown got killed.
The Blackstone Hotel was Wills' off-the-road home for several years.
Fort Worth flour mills played a big part in country music.
Burris Mills created the Light Crust Doughboys.
Universal Mills gave Ernest Tubb his first singing job- he was the Gold Chain Flour Troubadour.
Bewley Mills gave the Chuck Wagon Gang their start.

Yes--western swing music
3) Do you consider him a Historical figure ?
I guess, since he made a name for himself in that genre of music.

I mixed up the Baker in Mineral Wells with the Blackstone in Ft Worth, I used to work across the street from the Blackstone.

To me Western Swing and country are the same thing. My Dad disliked it and raised his kids to dislike it too.
That's the band my great uncle played for - light crust dough boys.

I exposed you as a closet liberal.

Re: Bob Wills - without a websearch
I had the opportunity to purchase the old Wills Homeplace Section, out in Hall County; his boyhood home was still standing on it.
The deal didn't work out; and I bought a different place.
I entertained the idea of restoring the old Home and turning it into a bed and breakfast.

We had the place leased when I was there, nice place to just see what you could find as far as relics of the depression.

Small world Cowman, I took my wife around the place and she bowed up when I mentioned living on it.
