Do any of you feed them? Have you noticed large numbers already this year?
It must have been a good winter for them because we have nearly as many at the feeders as we did in August of last year. I love seeing them but am always ready for them to go in October. That feeling may come earlier this year.

Re: Hummingbirds
Mine showed up on April 23. The usual fussing at the feeders ensued until Saturday morning they were none! It was very strange, too. I was kept awake all night by legs cramps and the birds were very noisy all night. They kept my husband and daughter awake they were so loud. Saturday morning, the hummingbirds did not appear and have not come back. Any ideas on what happened? Did they migrate further north or.........? I kept telling my husband that there must have been a predator or something. He didn't think that was it. He thinks that when all the kids and grands got here Friday (the grands are old enough to have their own cars, well some of them) there was so much traffic in the long drive way, they decided to find a better area. Everybody just had to go shopping, so it was in and out. Most of them left on Monday, but still no hummingbirds have returned.

Re: Hummingbirds
Mine showed up right on schedule on April 1.
Ann, I can't imagine why they have vanished but they will probably be back. I have noticed that mine do a disappearing act about the end of July then come back en masse a couple of weeks later. When I read about it I learned that there is a time when they stay very close to the nests which is why they seem to disappear. Interesting.
Also, you probably know about this but - have you tried large doses of magnesium and potassium (magnesium needs to be citrate or asparatate) for your leg cramps? I take 500 mg. bid for my heart irregularities but did find it helped minimize leg cramps. I chatted with a really progressive doc I used to see and he confirmed that it works. Also, when things get really rough I take additional - 1/2 tsp. of Magnesium Chloride 66.5 mg. per 1/2 tsp. It tastes really nasty but gives quicker relief than the capsules.

Be careful not to take too much magnesium. It can be harmful.

Yeah, one can overdose on it. And I know too much can make for arrhythmias but so can too little for someone like me. I take the amount my progressive doc recommended..............which is more than the recommended daily allowance.

Re: Hummingbirds
This is caused by the doctor I fired. After so many tests the new vascular surgeon did (reviewed by VS staff at Baylor), the doctor called me on April 23 and told me that it was the wrong surgery. I'll have to have another, more difficult one next week. This time they'll have to go in through my arm and it will be more difficult to get that iliac artery open. The old doctor told me the cramping was NOT from any vascular problem and I should see my internist to see what element (magnesium) I was missing. It all came back right on target. Another waste of money he caused me! This was the surgery my heart stopped twice and he told me" nothing happened" The cardiology work up, the internist visit, the first aneurism surgery he aborted and I had had enough! These aren't ordinary cramps....it goes from my foot clear up my leg to the iliac artery (which is lower abdominal). It's so scary....you can't move at all, can't even fall down. The first time it happened, I was home alone.
Dr. Yau is out of time this week and it's just as well since we still have house guests and I have time to steel myself for it.

Golly! I can't begin to imagine the pain. Nor can I imagine how angry you must be at the quack.
Hope this surgery goes more smoothly than the last.

Thanks Sue! When it first happened, I was sooo scared. Dr. Yau talked to me for at least 30 minutes on the phone Friday. He's out of town this week, but will call me next week to set up the surgery! I'll be asking for prayers when I have a date.
