We are watching the episode about JFK's assassination.

I remain fascinated by all the smoking on the show--and how reporters had a cigarette in one hand, a microphone in the other as they gave their news reports.

The only place I can think of where people didn't smoke was in church. Teachers didn't smoke in class, but you didn't want to be standing near the door of the Teachers' Lounge when it opened.

When I began my career in education--I think there were only about 3 in the building who did not smoke.

The high school had a patio area and it was OK for students to smoke on the patio.

By the time I left education, it was rare that teachers smoked--and smoking was prohibited on campus. I had a principal who was a smoker...and the metal storage shed behind the building was the smoker's den. The principal and the 4-5 teachers who smoked sat in that shed,( closed up, no windows) to smoke--even in August when the temps were 100+.
