Tell us about your pets
Re: Tell us about your pets
My son had a golden. It was the most amazing dog. He had hired an amazing woman to show him how to train his dog since he didn't want it jumping on his friends' little kids. I swear that dog could do anything... The woman is Lori Stevens who started Patriot Paws. Lori became a good friend of both my son and me. She told me that Skye and Mike made the best team she'd ever worked with. Skye greeted visitors by opening the front door (but only if a towel was on the door). My husband and I would go by his house to pick him up to go to dinner or whatever. Skye would answer the door, look up at me, turn and run into the kitchen, open the refrigerator and bring me a bottle of water. Back to the kitchen he'd go and return with a beer for Steve. He would get the mail out of the mailbox, trot down the sidewalk, hand me the mail and run back and close the box. He was so fast...he'd jump up, open the box, jump again and get the mail. He had a bit of trouble with magazines so he'd go back and get the magazine. He could pick out my son's brand of beer from a cooler no matter what else was in there. He never missed and would have ice on his nose as he delivered it to Mike. He'd bring the phone to you when it rang. We all miss Skye like crazy. Lori told me "Mike will never have another Skye just as I'll never have another Beau."

Neat!
BTW took Harry to the ophthalmologist yesterday. He now has glaucoma in his remaining eye. So he's now on 2 more prescription eye drops. By the time we got home his eyesight was back to what it was 2 weeks ago. Doc says it may stay that way or may fail again. There is no way of predicting the outcome. For now I'm so very thankful. It's been a very stressful couple of weeks.
When we got home the house was COOL!!!!!!! Technician did some kind of kluge to make it work until the proper part arrives. Another huge blessing!!! Sunday night was miserable and every critter that could fit through the screen came into the house and died in my shower, counter, sink, and bathtub. What a mess. Truly air conditioning is a gift from God!

Duffy our first Golden was kind of a rescue, he arrived at our house when he was almost 2. Duffy was my f-i-ls' dog (m-i-l doesn't like pets) on the fate full day I got him he'd been outside and gotten muddy in their freshly replanted flower bed, when my m-i-l let him in he shook off the mud. It landed on her, the wood blinds, piano, floor , couch and elsewhere. That sealed his fate and we happily took Duffy.
A few years later our granddaughter was out back on the swing, back door was open, wife was in the kitchen , Duffy came in barked and ran outside which was out of the norm so my wife went outside. Duffy was at our granddaughters side, she was choking on something.

It's ok if you disagree with me.

Sue, I was raised about 20 miles north of Amarillo. Up there it was always quarter horses. Helping folks that needed, playdays and long rides and campfires.
About 30 years ago I took a job down in Houston. We did not want to live in the city and found a place in the woods out between Houston and Conroe. About 6 acres, nice training ring and a very good horse barn. They raised walkers and also had a beautiful palomino American Saddle Bred gelding. I got them to include him in the deal. I fell in love with the comfort of riding gaited horses. A little later we bought a Tennessee Walker filly. She was beautiful, sorrow with flaxen mane and tail.
When me moved back up to the farm we brought them with us. They loved the freedom to roam the pastures. They are gone now. It really hurt. I miss them.

Re: Tell us about your pets
How neat, Grouchy! So you know about gaited horses.
My best horse ever, Mr. Conservative, was TWH sorrel with a flax mane and tail. I've prefered that color ever since. The current mare is the same color as was Steve, the horse I fell off of in 2000.
You can't beat a good gaited horse. I've ridden all gaits but by far prefer a running walk.
I know what you mean about missing them. Have Mr. C and 2 others buried here. I've only half jokingly said I want my ashes scattered over Mr. C's grave.

I remember the 2000 fall. You scared the heck out of Marti on that deal. We were all concerned.

Yeah, it was pretty unforgettable for me too. I have never experienced pain to equal 4 broken ribs. The fractured clavicle - that didn't heal until it was finally plated several months later - didn't hurt at all. The ribs - whole 'nother story. 8 months sleeping in a recliner with 2 dogs on my lap was not exactly delightful either. Yep, that experience cured me of horseback riding and I'd been riding since the age of 8. I rode Steve maybe 6 times after that but could never conquer the fear. I wound up having to sell him............which was best for him but broke my heart.

One outdoor cat, Bob, formerly the neighborhood scrounger. He's now fed twice a day on schedule. Hangs out in the back yard most of the time, but will visit the neighbors once in a while. Used to be a very skittish kitty, now he's very mellow and behaves more like a dog. He wouldn't hurt a fly, but I did see him work his cat-skills on a mouse a couple of weeks ago. First time he's exhibited any predator traits otherwise he's really a laid-back dude.... just the way we like it. I made a very cozy shelter for him for this past winter and he did just fine. We're looking at upgrading those digs for the upcoming winter now that we have him microchipped and he's 100% ours.
Some coffee cups are just too small.

My wife always insisted on having a pair of Siamese. She said they could keep each other company when we were gone. But, ours
totally ignored each other except when they had a fight. Now that Sashi is gone, Sammy doesn't seem to mind a bit. I've found it a lot easier to take care of 1 cat than two when one of them was sick. Piece of cake!

When I had two, they seemed to enjoy each other. They played even as older cats with each other.
