We tried 7-Eleven’s
new ooey, gooey,
cheese-stuffed snacks

The Dallas Morning News

Say it in your best Hulk Hogan voice: "Doritos. LOADED!"

If you want 7-Eleven’s newest snack to taste like Doritos, best get a bag of chips instead. The new Doritos Loaded, available for taste-test today in D-FW, are triangles of melted cheese encased in a Doritos Nacho Cheese crust. It’s like a mozzarella stick, but yellow on the inside. And flat.

We sampled the new snacks Monday afternoon, and our highly trained staff of junk-food eaters wished there were more chips in the Doritos Loaded. They were missing a crisp crunch. A quick nuke in the microwave made the cheese inside more appropriately gooey, but the crust still reminded us of the fried casing on a chicken nugget.

The verdict: As snack foods go, they’re OK. They’re more fun to eat than a plate of veggies. They’re less fun to eat than a basket of chicken wings.

Hey, wait: Maybe we should dip them in ranch?

A box of four costs $1.99 and will add 350 calories to your day. Eager eaters can try them twice on Tuesday; they hit stores in early July, says a spokeswoman.

Where to taste-test Doritos Loaded from food trucks parked at 7-Elevens on Tuesday, June 17:

• 5 to 9 p.m. at 3715 Maple Ave., Dallas

Me, too. Are the holes in the box to let the thing breathe?

No thank you.

I want just plain, old fashioned Doritoes--and those are getting more and more difficult to find.
