I haven't thought of Gino in decades, I had a girl friend that was crazy about him in the middle 70s.

I don't see it.
What would have been different if Elvis had never came along?
What change did he cause?
The real drivers of Rock music were already in place before Elvis- Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc.

Elvis took R&R mainstream, IMO.

And with perhaps the exception of Domino had hits earlier than those you mentioned.

It is interesting that Presley was younger than Berry, Domino, and Perriman; but they are still kicking and Elvis has been dead for nearly 40 years.
