I prefer fishin to huntin
I grew up hunting in rural Kansas. First in my grandfather's barn for sparrows with a bebe gun. Then rabbits with a 4/10. At the time jackrabbits were considered a pest and there was a bounty for their ears. We were on the flyway, so there was plenty of duck and geese hunting in the marshes. And pheasants. But, there were no deer at that time to hunt in Kansas at all. However, what I really liked was trout fishing in Colorado on our summer vacation. But, it was quite a few years until I was in Northern California before I could trout fish again. I decided to learn fly fishing. Then I learned to tie flies. When I came to Dallas I joined the Dallas Fly Fishers and have been a member for over 30 years. Made lots of friends and had a lot of great times. Used to have a VW camper and then a small travel trailer. Now, I usually just stay in motels in Oklahoma and Arkansas. And still tie flies at Cabelas in Allen on most Sat mornings.

I am right there with you planosteve. BB shooting from the barn, 410 in East Texas after most anything that flew. Loved to fish for rainbows in Red River, New Mexice in the late 1940's -early 60's. Dont have the eyes anymore to make my own flies, but I used too. Memories of this are great, THANKS

I shot a bird in my backyard with my BB gun once. Man, did I get in trouble.

We vacationed once there with my aunt and uncle from Okie City. I still remember digging for worms by the cabin. Usually, we went to a place called Lake Isabel close to Rye Colorado. We'd row around the lake dragging a big long attractor called Cowbells. I really got sunburned there. Once I hiked by myself up the inlet stream and found a nice waterfall. Caught some very nice ones there.glenn/dallas wrote:I am right there with you planosteve. BB shooting from the barn, 410 in East Texas after most anything that flew.
