Sorry, if you're that afraid of the guy coming toward you..stay in your car..call for help..better yet, drive off.
Step out and start shooting?

Re: Another cop I hope gets fired
I totally disagree. The perp jumped out of his car and moved aggressively toward the officer, cursing at him. Just yesterday, I saw a story about a cop who didn't taser a guy, who proceeded to knock him down and then pistol-whip him.
I don't know if the guy was on drugs, crazy, or just an a-hole, but he had that coming.
The only criticism I have is that the cop should have said, "Sir, GET BACK IN YOUR CAR!" as soon as the guy jumped out, but from what I read, he was stopping to help a motorist stranded in the median and was probably surprised by what he encountered. Because I think the guy was high, crazy, or just an a-hole, it probably wouldn't have made any difference, but it would have looked better.

Re: Another cop I hope gets fired
Lots of people say, after a cop shoots someone and ends their life, WHY DIDNT HE JUST USE HIS TAZER?
Well, this officer did, I dont see a problem.
As they always say, act like a idiot if your confronted by the police, its not going to go good for you
The are both still alive.

I admire and respect this officer. Anyone that does not has serious issues with law enforcement officers. There are bad cops, this man is not one of them.

The guy jumped out of the car and raised his arm like he was pointing a gun and headed toward the cop in a very aggressive manner. I couldn't hear what he was saying but he's lucky he only got tazed.

Yes, "get back in the car" would have been constructive.
Then if the guy is still coming at him..that would be different.
This cop wishes to have no contact with the people that pay his salary except to put them unconscious on the ground?
..and how is he a perp before anyone even knows what's going on here?

We can't actually see what the cop did prior to tazing the guy, and it's impossible to tell exactly how close the guy was before the cop tazed him, but he looks pretty close. Best I can tell, the cop pulled out his tazer, and the guy kept coming until he was only a few feet away. From the time he jumped out of his car until the cop tazed him at nearly point-blank range, it was 8 seconds. He jumped out and stood by the door for four seconds, then took four seconds to close the distance to the cop.
As far as him being a perp: he wasn't until he attacked the officer.
Re: Another cop I hope gets fired
He's lucky that stunt of jumping out and aiming his fist at the cop didn't get him shot. It looks like a perfect example of a vignette from a "shoot-don't shoot" training video.millergrovesue wrote:The guy jumped out of the car and raised his arm like he was pointing a gun and headed toward the cop in a very aggressive manner. I wonder if that happened just as the officer was getting out of his car, because it appears the cop never advanced until after he tazed the guy.
What is the deal with all these people assaulting cops? Has this always happened, and we're just now seeing it because of dashcams and cell phone cameras?
Re: Another cop I hope gets fired
This is an assault on a cop?
How do you have an assault when no one even touches anyone?

Re: Another cop I hope gets fired
If the assailant touches someone it's assault and battery. A credible, immediate threat can be an assault. Probably this fool didn't intend to attack the cop but his crazy actions at the outset would set any prudent person on guard.

Simple assault in Texas consists of:
intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causing bodily injury to another person
intentionally or knowingly threatening another person with imminent bodily injury, or
intentionally or knowingly causing physical contact with another that the offender knows or reasonably should know the victim will find provocative or offensive.
(Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 22.01).
Threatening words or gestures are considered assault. Battery requires physical contact. Assault doesn't.

I could not hear what the man said..did he knowingly threaten imminent bodily injury?

I have no idea. I haven't read what he said.

Me neither, but that seems like a crucial element.
So why are people here so sure the cop was in the right?

I don't know. I don't have an opinion. I don't know enough of the details.

I recomment strongly if your house gets broken into you need to call a cop, not a guy who yells when exiting his SUV. Just a thought.

How does that relate to whether the cop was out of line or not?
