Late yesterday afternoon we had a medical emergency with my mom. An ambulance was @30 minutes away. We live about 7 miles outside the city limits but the first person there to help was a police officer.
He was under no responsibility to come assist, but he did even though he does not "work for us".
There are good cops out there.

That's been my experience.
How is she doing today?

Fractured pelvis, luckily her hips are ok. Not good, but it could have been a whole lot worse.

Yes. She will be for a while.

I hate to hear that, Grouchy. That's a painful injury. I hope they're keeping her comfortable and she is on the road to recovery.

I know this does not apply in your case, but it really reminds me of the old saying:
All the cops are no good....till you need one yourself
Hoping for a long lasting quick recovery

Thanks Glenn.
About cops/policemen, I try give them the respect and admiration that I believe they deserve until proven otherwise. If I see them in a restaurant, I pickup their tab without letting them know who did it. Same for military and firemen.
I guess I am an old fool. But, it is who I am.

Grouchy,
I think what you are seeing is just that there a lot of very good people out there. When you run into them they will use what every position they are in to do the most good and be as helpful as possible. It can be a cop or a waitress or a nurse or a random stranger. When we label others it confuses matters...particularly in stressful situations. When an Officer dies it isn't the death of the LEO that bothers me, it is the death of another human being...someone's sibling, parent, friend, lover, even enemy with all the plans and hopes and dreams I have or have had snuffed out...gone forever...even Michael Brown. I see killing someone as the ultimate indignity being inflicted on them.
That said, I wish for a speedy recovery and am glad it wasn't worse. Have a good Sunday.
