Re: The deluge

Postby millergrovesue » Fri Oct 23, 2015 9:45 am

I have come to understand why God make soil crack like it does in dry weather. Gives the torrential rain a valuable place to go rather than running off and washing soil away.

The front part of our property is fairly flat so the current rain is doing more running into cracks than causing any problems.

The only downside is that, once the soil plumps up, our back door will become inoperable again. And the builder, we got judgment against 5 years ago, has defaulted on the payback agreement that he signed 14 months ago. Our next step will be, in about 25 days, to start selling off his property. Sheeeeeesssssshhhhh. The lack of conscience sure makes life easier for some people...............at least to a point.

Two inches here in southeast Oklahoma, and more likely. Very badly needed.

Hurricane Patricia sounds very serious for Mexico. After it makes landfall, it looks like it's going to cause some serious rainfall and flooding in our area. I'm paying attention to this one.

Weather prognosticators have established that Patricia is the
biggest, baddest on record. With what rain you guys already have, it's not
a reach to predict an eye-popping, if not biblical deluge. 'It's bad and
it's gonna get worse.' (The Weather Channel 15 mins ago re: Texas.)

Doesn't make the reports/forecasts are hysterical. But it appears to be in
the neighborhood of 5" plus. I really hope things abate somewhat. It could
become a something that 'hasn't happened before.'

I might add that weather forecasting isn't political or purely emotional
as some might suggest.

We have now received 10.25 inches. The creek behind our house is out of its banks. Both stock tanks are over the spillways. Neighbor to our east has huge USCS dam on his place, about a mile from our fence line. It is now backed up onto our place.
This is not a complaint. We are not in danger. Please keep the CBS 11 Thunder Truck up there. :D

We had a poorly built tank wash out a few years ago. Need to get a dozer operator who knows what he's doing out here. The other tank in back has some beaver holes. I dread seeing what it looks like after this rain. Again, need a dozer out here for a few days.

Road crews were digging out gullies a couple of weeks and we got them to leave us 11 16 yd. dump trucks worth of dirt. We have plenty of soil for the washed out dam as well as enough to fill the hole once the old foundation is removed. Price was great for the soil - FREE!

There is a CBS 11 Thunder Truck? Yeah, I never watch t.v. news.

Rural road crews are usually pretty good folks.

I got 1.5 inches Thursday in the gauge which I emptied before I went to bed. Friday morning I had 4.25 in the gauge which I emptied and this morning I had 4.75 inches. I'm ready for some sun.

I've lost track but I think we are near 9".

Anyone question the power of water? Water versus train - water wins. Amazing!

Well, they do almost always exaggerate the forecasts so it's a big surprise when they turn out to be accurate.
