If someone gifts you with homemade jam or jelly, do you return the empty jar to the person?
I sure wish more of my friends knew the etiquette on this gift....and I wouldn't have to keep purchasing jars.

My mom makes jam/jellies. Returned jars to her last week. Can't wait for the next batch. My favorites from her are peach and boysenberry/dewberry. Hope she can find enough peaches to make jelly this year...
Re: Homemade jam or jelly
Bodine, I thought I read that this was a good year for peaches.
No one gives me jams or jellies. I would gladly return the jars if they did.

I haven't tasted home made jelly since my mom died in 2003. Smuckers apricot pretty much does it for me jelly wise.

I like the flavor of homemade so much that I make some each year.
Made wild plum in the last two weeks and will be on a peach mission within a week. Wild grapes will come in August........

In my family and group of friends they know they better or they don't get more LOL
Zephyr thinks he's smart. He said onions are the only food that makes him cry. So I threw a coconut at his face.

Where I come from, the jar is part of the gift! Like asking if I should return the bow on the present. It is all one item!

IMO very different from wrapping on a gift.
The jar is reusable/recyclable. It should go somewhere useful, so back to the person who will use it again......of course, if that means mailing back, then give it to someone who will use it.

I've discovered Raspberry/Jalapeno, Peach/Jalapeno, Jalapeno/Jalapeno

I don't think I've ever been given a jar of homemade jelly or jam. But I certainly would return the jar if the giver wanted it.
I do have a friend who's mother makes delicious homemade salsa...I always return the jar and have in fact sent boxes of empty jars (left over from the wedding) to her mother's house in hopes that I get more salsa..
