Things I hate about Colorado

Dick Cheney is probably seeding the clouds.

Cheney is from just north of here in Casper, WY. My cousin went to school with him. Used to see him in the beer joints with a roadmap plotting the shortest route to Canada in case his number came up.

Wanted to take the girls to Colorado this summer but really didn't have the time and money. Maybe next year. They would love to see the snow on the mountains during the summer.

Just came back from having supper in Estes Park and we have a visitor. Looks like he intends to stay the night.

There I was yesterday, just trying to catch some fish when they showed up.

Bright, sunny and 36 degrees here this morning.

Another thing is fishing. Normally, fly fishing is a wonderful, relaxing sport that combines communing with mother nature with expertly flick a tiny dry fly back and forth. It's a joy to do and like poetry to watch. But, not here. Here in Colorado, the fly no more that touches the water before monsters boil up out of the deep and attack it. Instead of being able to enjoy the experience, the angler is forced to spend his time removing these football size bemoths from his line and having to tie on fly after fly as they are mangled into unrecognizable bits of hair and fur. At the end of the day you are exhausted with nothing to show for it but a freezer chest packed full of trout. And there is really nothing you can do with them but eat them. Here I am with one of those nasty old Colorado trout this morning.

I lived in Denver for 9 years. Studded tires in the Winter, regular tires in the Summer. Snow can start in August and the last of the ice melts the next April. A snow blower is a necessity. You get the sidewalks clean & the snow plow cleaning the streets redeposits it on your sidewalk. You wake up after 24 hours of snow and the cars in the driveways are just covered lumps in the snow. And you are still expected to be at work on time. It's just snow! I never want to even cross the Colorado state line again. I've had enough of Colorado. I have never had to shovel the Texas heat off my driveway.

And I never, ever, just once even, seen it raining fire from the sky? And never even saw an eagle fly.
And I can tell you getting high around the campfire, while legal now, is seriously overratted.

Of all the things about Colorado I hate, the one thing that I hate most of all is leaving. Because, I have to drive through Denver to get home. Wish me luck. I'll need it!
