Spanish papers, perhaps closer to the developing story than British ones, are indicating the murder of the policewoman was by a separate pair of terrorists.

France has awakened frightened by the spector of terror. While several thousand police and specialists continue in the search for the two suspects in the massacre in the editorial offices of the satirical weekly "Charlie Hebdo", a municipal policewoman has died and a male officer has been wounded at about 8:00 am this Thursday in the outskirts of Paris, at the Gate of Chatillon.

The French authorities have informed the Spanish ones that this attack also was carried out by jihadists. So reported the Interior Minister, Jorge Fernandez Diaz, in a news conference after being informed by the Director-General of Police, Ignacio Cosidó.

Minutes after this occurrence there was an explosion in a restaurant close to a mosque in the locality of Villefranche sur Saone, in the Ródano region in eastern France. There were no deaths or injuries, judicial sources reported to the daily newspaper "Le Monde". It stated that as of now there is no evidence linking this explosion with the terrorist attack, although it did confirm it was intentional.

During the night a mosque and a Muslim prayer hall were also attacked. In the first case, three test grenades were thrown at the mosque and at least one shot fired at it. In Port-Las Nouvelle, in southern France, two shots were fired in the direction of a Muslim prayer hall late last night, according to the prosecutor of Narbona, David Charmatz.

With regard to the shootout that the country awakened to there is confusion about its perpetrators since, despite early reports of the arrest of a man, it seems there there are two persons involved. Thus reported the Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeney, who explained that one of them has taken flight.

Shooting a high velocity rifle bullet through a windshield is not the same as hitting it with a hammer.

I have done it, in precision rifle courses and it looks about the same as it does in the photos of the attack.

Live TV news in English from the scene of hostage situation near Paris, a French network via a Spanish news site. Apparently the two gunmen have taken hostages and barricaded themselves in a factory after an intensive gunfight and vehicle pursuit.

"Gangsta" bullet holes in the windshield?. Glass didn't shatter.

Do they always yell "Allahu Akbar" while they shoot places up? Or just when they want you to think they are Muslim?

And they all got away! Wasn't that convenient?
But, the French police say they know who they were.

Well whatever. I have to think the terrorists won this one, big time. After all, they expected to be killed. But, I imagine if they were alive today, they would be very pleased at the results of their efforts. They captured the attention of the whole world for a couple of days. Started a lot of debates. And may have provided a lot of encouragement for others now to follow in their footsteps to become maryters willing to lay down their lives for their cause. They may have hoped to be the tip of the spear. We should find out before very long.
