Southwest Airline makes old people pay more

Postby glenn/dallas » Sun Oct 13, 2019 6:36 pm

First , no more peanuts, now this.

Southwest Airlines will eliminate discounted airfares for seniors in the coming months, adding hundreds of dollars in costs to many flights. Southwest Airlines' senior travel webpage says the Dallas-based carrier will eliminate the discount for those 65 and older as of Dec. 11.

Its getting garder and harder to be old anymore, oh well, I'm 75 and still like all you youngsters out there

Doesn't bother me a bit. I haven't flown their airplanes but once since they started to frisk you and don't ever intend to again.

 Oh, well. We can still get free coffee at McDonald's.

Of course, I don't eat at McDonald's.
And don't drink coffee.

I just looked up what senior fares are. We'll be going to Ft Lauderdale in a couple of months, so I used that as a comparison

Senior fare, one way: $518
Wanna Get Away fare: $137

On that one, the Business Select fare is $547. I looked at some other days that are not as high-demand, and there is greater variance, with the business fare at $500+, the senior fare at $300+, and Wanna Get Away at $100+.

If you are planning your travel ahead of time, it doesn't seem to make any difference. If you're getting a last-minute flight, or if the Wanna Get Away fares are sold out, then it could be a big difference.
