We came out to the side porch this morning for a cup of coffee. The yorkies were rooting around in the shrubs and one came out carrying a dead baby cottontail. Ended up with 3 dead babies and 1 survivor. Grandkids wanted to try and save it.
We have lots of breast milk for Jordan's son in our freezer so the bunny is being fed with an eyedropper every couple of hours. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

Re: new critter to try and raise
Bunny now lives in a hampster cage. New name is Cujo. He/it loves the milk. Tanner wants me to take. It with us tonight when we go to football practice to show his buddies.

Very cool, the kids will get a kick out of that show and tell. Tanner and grandpaw save a bunny.
It's a joke son,I say a joke
Re: new critter to try and raise
My daughter did that too, it lived in hamspter cage till it was old enough to be set free out on friends land the other one didn't make it. Just died in the cage. Those baby rabbits are very hard to keep alive when they are really young. They go into shock or so I am told. .. sounds like this one is doing great.
Zephyr thinks he's smart. He said onions are the only food that makes him cry. So I threw a coconut at his face.

Tractor supply has some good milk replacer for rabbits and such. Price is ok so if you need anything look there. Might add a little cod liver oil to the milk also, it works great in baby pigs.

He/She seems to be thriving on our granddaughters milk. Karen called our vet and he said it should work. We are not going to keep it as a pet. We are letting the hormones and our Dane sniff it when we take it out of the cage. I would like it to sorta hang around our place, but if the dog's don't adapt we will put it out in the pasture.

Hormones was supposed to say yorkies.

Hope you are successful. Any idea of how old it is, and how long you'll have to bottle feed it?
Re: new critter to try and raise
It is 4" long and can kinda scoot along the cage floor.I need to Google cottontail and do some research.

If that little bugger is moving around, you are on the right path. They grow at at an amazing rate and are ready to take off on their own in less time than anything I've ever seen.
