Ever own a Corvair?

Postby LibraryLady » Wed Aug 20, 2014 7:23 am

My sister and BIL had one when they were first married. He loved that car...they had a convertible.
After Nadar's book they would not drive it but kept the vehicle.

Now it has been restored, painted bright red, and they drive it from time to time.

Here is a story about a man who owns several.

My second car was a 67 Corvair. Drove it back and forth to Lubbock for a couple of years. Never had a problem. We kept it in the family for several years and ultimately sold it to a member of the Corvair club.

The instability problem that made Ralph Nader famous was corrected with a redesign of the rear suspension in the 1965 design updates.

My Aunt and Uncle had one a 64 Monza, reminded me of my B&S powered Go Kart.

A few years ago I tried to purchase a 59 off of a co-worker, that model had a separate gasoline powered heater.

He was a little to proud of it.

It was the family car when I was in Kindergarten & first grade ( mid-1960's ). It took us ( parents, 6-year old me, 13-year old sister ) rather safely on a move from San Antonio to upstate New York.

Got replaced by a '66 Pontiac GTO, which was the only family car until I was a high school Senior.
No matter where you go, there you are...
