New Ken Burns documentary
New Ken Burns documentary
The Roosevelts, starts tonight on PBS. I am getting ready to fly back to California, but have tv set to record the series. Lots of things I don't like about FOR but it should be interesting. Anyone else going to watch?
Re: New Ken Burns documentary
I might watch now that I know it's on.
Burns is always good.

I am recording the series. No telling when I'll actually watch the episodes. I am just now watching the Sixties series.

These documentaries never tell what I want to know. I could care less about the minutia of their lives. Who married who. Who their kids were. What they did. So what. What I want to know about the filthy rich is how did they get filthy rich. When you start looking at them usually you find they were crooks. According to wikipedia, the Roosevelts were in the glass importing business in New York. Yeah right. You don't get filthy rich importing glass.

Good series!

Burns is the Leni Refienstahl of the American Left, so keep that in mind.

Teddi and FDR were 5th cousins. That's not a close relationship. It means they have 1 or more common ancestors 5 generations back.

He may be but I haven't noticed it in his work.
I watched "The Civil War", "Jazz" and "Baseball". I didn't see any leftist propaganda.

That's because "some people" have made the weather political.
Re: New Ken Burns documentary
That is because some people know what they are writing or talking about.

I've enjoyed it...what I've been able to stay up and watch. Trying to watch until 11pm makes it hard to wake up the next morning.

In "The Civil War", Burns pointed out that Lincoln was a military dictator who trampled on the constitution.
Burns praised Nathan Bedford Forrest as a military genius. The same Forrest who founded the Ku Klux Klan after the War.
Lee came out the better General than Grant.
I don't see any liberalism there.
In "Jazz" and "Baseball", there were no politics, at all.
Burns may be a leftist, but I didn't notice it in his shows I have seen.

I haven't seen any of them..was just commenting generally.

If we had of had a few more Forrest's, we wouldn't have to be putting up with Yankee crap.
Burns has done some good stuff, so did Leni, but you need to know his biases. For example if I made a Documentary on Wendy, it would be perfectly fine to look into what I have said politically.

Meryl Streep does a great job with Eleanor's voice. I don't even think about it being her.
Last night was a good one...it showed FDR getting polio and how he dealt with it. I wonder where he picked up the virus at his age? The man who did much of the narration was almost in tears at one point. He had been a polio victim too.
