Step back in time to 1867 when Ft. Richardson was established as a federal fort after the Civil War. Stay the night at a campsite on an unsettled land where Kiowa and Comanche Indians battled the United States Army. At dusk on October 25, go for a ghost walk through the historic buildings. Or, visit October 31 through November 2 for "Civil War Weekend" and watch re-enactors as they perform continuous living history demonstrations including infantry, mounted cavalry, artillery drills and battle re-enactments. Fort Richardson State Park & Historic Site.

Come and experience a taste of the North Texas’ farming and ranching heritage in the setting of The Penn Farm Agricultural History Center. The Farm is open seven days a week to self-guided tours. This year's Harvest Heritage Festival is on Saturday, October 25th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a variety of activities and demonstrations for the whole family, including the Buffalo Soldiers, a vintage baseball display, quilters, a blacksmith, Dutch-oven cooking, farm tours and more! Cedar Hill State Park.

Hike around Cedar Lake to a Civilian Conservation Corps earthen dam and rock spillway at Cleburne State Park. Active during the height of the Great Depression, the CCC’s handiwork remains visible throughout the state park system today. Go when your schedule permits.
