My dad was a navy dentist stationed in the Philippines at the end of the war. He said he did dental work on several Japanese officers who were later executed for war crimes. He said they were always very polite and bowed before they got in the chair, but they had incredibly nasty personal hygiene. One of his buddies also did the "Remember Pearl Harbor" engraving on some dentures.
