the GLO has determined to change its day to day management from the DRT and move in a new direction,” Bush said.

And what direction might that be? Hmmmm. Toward one of the big campaign contributors I would venture. :D

Perhaps someone who isn't incompetent and/or corrupt can run things for a while:

I didn't read the whole article but the first 6 or 8 paragraphs make it clear that it's way past time someone stepped in and dumped the Daughters. Greed and incompetence seem to be their hallmark when it comes to the Alamo.

I'm just going to guess that the concern over the Daughters has more to do with cultural diversity than greed and incompetence.

But maybe not.

That was then, this is now. When Greg Abbott's office issues a report saying, "The OAG's investigation concluded that the DRT failed to fulfill its fiduciary duty to the State of Texas as trustee of the historic Alamo. Specifically, the DRT did not properly preserve and maintain the Alamo, misused state funds for the organization's own benefit, failed to recognize or address conflicts of interest, and allowed its own organizational prerogatives to interfere with its duty to act in the best interests of the State of Texas and the Alamo...", I tend to think the problems are more than "PC BS".

And it wasn't the DRT that saved the place from the wrecking ball, it was the State legislature, who purchased the property (and then appointed the DTR to preserve it), and who have appropriated funds a number of times for its restoration. According to the OAG's report, the DTR only spent $350 on preservation, total, in the years 2006-2009.

I didn't read the article yet....but I never knew the Alamo could have been going under the wrecking ball. It's a major Texas landmark and tourist spot. What happened?

I believe that the descendants of the Texas Revolutionaries care more about the Alamo Shrine than State Government, you may trust Politicians and Bureaucrats, I don't.

Has the DRT screwed ? Sure. Has the State ever screwed anything up ? Yes, only slightly less than the Fedgod has screwed up.

So does that mean you think it's acceptable for DRT to misuse funds intended for upkeep of the Alamo? I'm all for appointing a better organization to take over and the only way to do that, far as I can see, is for the state gov. to handle it. I think they are the only ones with the authority to boot DRT.

No I don't; but I believe the DRT will clean up their act a lot quicker than State Bureaucrats.

Have you ever been to the Fannin Monument ?

I just wanted to add what a wonderful gentlemen Phil Collins is, for his donations of Texas Relics.

On that I hope we can all agree.

Absolutely. I heard he was doing the latest round of donations because his kids didn't want the stuff. Wonderful to donate it rather than have the kids toss it in the trash or sell it on EBay.

I don't know where or what the Fannin Monument is. Searched and found a Fannin Battlefield. Is that it? In Houston?

Heck I haven't been to the Alamo, except outside of it, in probably 50 years.

Remember the Alamo ! Remember Goliad !

The Fannin monument is built on the mass grave of Fannin and his men, that were executed after their surrender after Battle of Coleto, very near Goliad. The battle occurred two weeks after the Alamo fell. It is poorly kept, and a mess.

The nearby Presidio is well maintained; but it has a more diverse history.
