Re: Jack Ely RIP
That was my favorite song back when I was at Univ. of South Fla!
Re: Jack Ely RIP
The Singer lip synching in the video was not Ely; it was a guy named Easton who forced Ely out of the Band, but it was Ely's voice they were lip synching to.
That version was record April 6, 1963; in one take, obviously, was pure crude distilled R&R !

On an unrelated note, GfB, how many Grammy-nominated works have you collaborated on (not sure what the industry term for "someone else got all the money" is)?
Re: Jack Ely RIP
Something about that song gives me the urge to chug a couple of Falstaffs, and dance and sing along

Well, can't really say "collaborated on", simply because in music business speak that refers to cowriting.
Songs in which I was a cowriter, and that had some success, I have enjoyed compensation for.
But more to your point, more times than not I have been a "player" on such records. I guess the word would be "contributor" or "participant."

That's interesting to know. It was clear that the dancing kids weren't dancing to that song. The beat was completely different.

I know little to nothing of the Kingmen, but that looks like the same guy that is singing in the original youtube posted above.

It has been said by many that "Louie, Louie" is the "National Anthem of Rock and Roll".

I'd vote for Wooly Bully.
Louie, Louie was about on the same level as the Surfin' Bird.

There are certainly a lot of songs that use that same chord progression. Even as a kid, when I heard "Hang on, Sloopy", I said, "Hey, that's 'Louie, Louie'!"
