A 55-year-old woman was shot dead by villagers, who mistook her to be a wild boar that they were chasing from a nearby farm at Eravalam Madura Katchikuppam village near Thirukovilur on Tuesday evening.
Police booked 16 villagers in connection with the incident and arrested six persons so far, including the man who shot the woman with a country-made gun. Local sources said Parvathy (55), wife of Subramanian of Katchikuppam village was diverting water at her sugarcane farm when a gang of villagers, who were chasing the boar saw it entering Subramanian's farm. The gang surrounded the farm in order to hunt down the animal. A Anthony Raj (31) of nearby Molasur village who was carrying the gun at the time of the incident, shot the woman from behind from a distance of about 100 metres, mistaking her to be the wild boar that they were chasing.
However, when they heard the cry of a woman, the men fled the spot and threw the gun into a nearby farm. Some of the nearby farm workers who heard her scream, rescued Parvathy and rushed her to Thirukovilur GH, where she was declared brought dead. Based on the complaint given by the victim's husband Subramani, Thirukovilur police detained Anthony Raj on Tuesday.
Based on Anthony's confession, police arrested five more of his accomplices on Wednesday. A police official said, "We found that about 16 persons from five nearby villages were involved in the case. Till Wednesday we arrested about six habitual hunters including the key accused. We have also confiscated a gun from them." The rest of the gang members would be arrested soon, he added.
Local sources said a team of 20 villagers were involved in hunting wild animals in the surrounding forest areas including Ulundurpet, Rishivandhiyam, and Thiruvannamalai for over two years. Thy possessed an illegal country-made gun. After a hung, they also used to sell the meat in Puducherry, Cuddalore and Villupuram.

Re: Hog Hunters Beware
I'm thinking that was translated from the original language by someone who isn't all that familiar with the English language.
This story is an example of my concern about people who shoot - and why I am concerned about people like my neighbors. We don't have a clue whether they are competent, sane, visually impaired, altered by alcohol or drugs, influenced by gang mentality, etc. That's why open carry makes me so leery. I don't worry about what I can't see. I do worry about someone walking around with a gun in plain sight.

If the old girl in the article had of 'fixed up' a little and used a
depilatory she might still be around.
This occurred in a Country with extremely strict gun control, which obviously didn't prevent it.
If people with firearms make you nervous, you are in for some tough times, living in Texas.

Nice to see your mind remains open and your attitude kind. What a mean and prejudicial statement...........which, I'm guessing, is what you intended. This equates to the belief that a woman asks to be raped because of her manner of dress. Archaic.

I've made it here for 67 years. I trust the paranoid ultra conservatives will be diluted by the humanitarians eventually.

Never mind. I shouldn't have wasted time responding. Your comments didn't rate a response of any kind. There is no point. Disregard.
