What is your favorite hymn? Mine is How Great Thou Art.

I am a great fan of that one, but I also like This is My Father's World.

God of Our Fathers Whose Almighty Hand

Unfortunately, the latest Presbyterian hymnal has made some of the hymns more politically correct, so now we sing God of the Nations . . .

I like that one also, BT.

Our current minister is selecting the music. gah! gah! He picks obscure hymns that make a funeral dirge sound great. 90% of the time none of us know the songs, so there is little singing and just the music. One of our members called them cucumber and watermelon songs. I asked about that, and he said when we have a weird song like that--that he doesn't know, he does not bother with the words, he just sings "cucumber and watermelon" as the music is played. hahahah

I love hymns as opposed to the Praise and Worship music that sings the same words over and over again. And I like the sense of tradition that these hymns have been sung for generations. But the younger generations seem to be ditching them. There are too many to mention but a few I like are:

Oh for a thousand tongues to sing
It is well with my Soul
Up from the Grave he Arose
A Mighty Fortress is our God
How Great thou Art
Doxology

I'm sure there are many more

"Beautiful Savior"

There was a time when I sang (with a small choral group) at just about all the funerals at our church. My favorite was "Now the Day is Over."

Do you know "In the bulb there is a flower?"
It is now my fsvorite funeral song. It is sometimes titled "Hymn of Promise"
