He wouldn't have but he probably could have been.

I'm not supporting any of this. I don't know enough about what actually went down.
You asked how Perry might have overstepped his bounds and I tried to give you an answer.

Bill I understand what you are saying, the Travis County Rat Grand Jury is wrong however.

One big difference is that the US President doesn't have Line Item Veto Power, he must veto the entire Bill.

I do know for a fact that Perry is an arrogant smartass. I know this from people who have worked with him.
There is no telling what went on and what Perry might have actually said to the people involved.

I'll withhold judgement on the merits of the case until everything is out.
From a personal standpoint, I don't mind seeing Perry go down and I don't mind seeing that idiot DA woman get national exposure.

If you can figure out a way to get arrogant smartasses out of government, I will vote for you.

You're not an arrogant smartass, are you?

I am not going to defend Perry, other than this particular instance - I oppose Fascists and Stalinists which is exactly what the Travis County Rats are.

You will only encourage more "Politicization" of the Criminal Justice system."

These Grand Jury members are cut from the same cloth as the Slime that burned the Governors Mansion.

Perry isn't helping himself by being disingenuous about it.

"Defiant Texas Gov. Perry Says He Would Veto Money Again"

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2014/08/1 ... sNewsForth

Perry knows that he isn't being charged with anything because he vetoed the bill. He had that right.
He's being charged with his actions leading up to the veto. Why try to make it appear otherwise?

I don't believe the that definition of "Disingenuous" matches mine; it seems like Perry is shooting straight in this instance.

So y'all OK with this Obnoxious Lush heading the Public Integrity Unit ?

If not what would you do a Guv - let it slide?

First, the woman definitely has an problem with alcohol consumption. She has no business as a DA....especially a DA who prosecutes DUI.
The people of Travis County should have demanded that she resign........and she most certainly would not be reelected.

However, what has Perry's tail in the crack is his threat, "If you don't resign, I will defund your office." The "If you don't resign" brought the charge of coercion of a public official. That is what has him in trouble.

I find it amusing that he says "it is politics"--well, it was politics that created the problem on his side also........It is all politics.

I believe the Governor can veto a Bill for any reason he wants.

This is the same Travis County DA that came up with the Indictments against DeLay and Kay Bailey.

Lehmberg is the perfect Rat.

Shooting straight?
His saying 'I would veto it again', is about like his saying 'I would eat Cheerios again'. The veto itself has nothing to do with the charges against Perry and Perry knows it doesn't.
He would be in the same boat even if he hadn't vetoed the bill.

Of course I'm not okay with her running it. I've made my feelings known about her several times in this thread.
As governor I would do anything legal to get her out of there. I wouldn't say 'either quit and let me take it over or I'll shut it down'. Especially if the Unit was in the middle of a corruption investigation involving me.

I don't believe it is illegal for Texas Governor to veto a bill.

What you have is a County where Crap Slinging Monkeys are in the Majority in charge of Investigations for State office.

Budgetary control is the only Tool Perry has at hand.

I've said about a dozen times that it was not illegal for Perry to veto the bill.
I said it in the last post as well as every other post in this thread.

If Perry was "disingenuous" he could have said nothing and vetoed the Bill or made up another reason that he vetoed the Bill.

If he can veto a Bill with no Pre-Conditions then charging him with this is pure Rat BS.

Travis County ought to pony up the money for this Goat Rodeo.

What Perry wanted most was to get her to resign. If that failed, his plan B was to defund the Unit. To force her out he couldn't "not say anything". He had to threaten a veto if she refused to resign.
Here's my take on it. It may or not be accurate, but I think it is.

Perry didn't give a flip about that DA woman. He didn't care whether she was a drunk or not. You can bet that Perry has more than one drunk crony in the state government.
Perry is gearing up to run for president. The Integrity Unit has been investigating Perry since 2013 for some kind of campaign finance collusion. Whether there is anything to it or not, Perry wanted to get it out of his way before next year's primary season.

When the DA showed her butt with the DWI and video that went with it, Perry decided to use that as a pretext to either take over the Unit by her resigning and him naming her successor (preferable,) or if that failed shutting it down. He preferred she quit, because his man running the Unit could then give Perry a clean bill of health.

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz calls himself a "liberal Democrat who would never vote for Rick Perry," but he's still "outraged" over the Texas governor's indictment Friday on charges of abuse of power and coercion.

The charges are politically motivated and an example of a "dangerous" trend of courts being used to affect the ballot box and politics, he told Newsmax on Saturday.

"Everybody, liberal or conservative, should stand against this indictment," Dershowitz said. "If you don't like how Rick Perry uses his office, don't vote for him."

There have been several liberals coming out with that.
I think they have their own rogue executive in office they're afraid may get the same treatment one day soon.
