Actually, it froze. Couldn't move the cursor. I rebooted 3 times. No luck. So, I rebooted in safe mode and ran system restore.
I'm back in business.

My laptop is Win 7. But, my desktop is xp and has been running slow, so I'll try it out there and see what happens.

If you're running Firefox, suspect Java. It asks you endlessly to update, then does it itself. Slows down the computer and forces a restore to get rid of the version that clashes with the browser.
