Jury Duty Today / Johnson County

Postby Dancer » Mon Aug 18, 2014 6:53 pm

Reported at 9 AM as directed. Got into courtroom at 10:45 for selection to begin. Sent to lunch break at 11:40 til 1:00. From 1:20 until 5:20 minus two 10 min breaks, sent home with eight dollars cash, brain leaking from both ears and wasn't selected to 12 person Jury. What a way to spend a Monday.

Being called for jury duty is always a whipping, doing your civil duty is what will keep us a decent society.
It's a joke son,I say a joke

The strangest jury duty I had was a mob scene, a friendly docile mob though. Both of our next door neighbors were called, too. The jury pool was 300! I guess the defense lawyer and the defendant didn't like the looks of us. It was a child sexual abuse case. They all came out ready to start and then a recess almost immediately. After awhile the jury pool was given a break. When it was reconvened, they told us that the defendant had come to an agreement and we were all dismissed just in time for lunch. There were 10 of us who went to lunch together.

I love jury duty. Sometimes I have to reschedule but I always show up. It can seem like a waste of time sitting waiting for something to happen, but the presence of people ready to be seated on a jury is sometimes the reality check that the defense needs to cop a plea.

The wheels of justice turn slowly, but what government function doesn't?
