Fairbanks is a keeper.

When Smyly came in to the game, I told my husband that the Rangers must have given up on coming back to win since the score was 7 to 1 and there's Smyly pitching. Two homers later I changed the channel.

You missed the third in a row. I stayed until the bitter end.

+1 The Rangers did get a couple of runs in the 9th, but too little, too late. Smyly is just awful.

The Rangers forced the Indians to get closer Brad Hand up in the bullpen. In a blowout game, that is a small victory.

Joey Gallo is set to begin his rehab assignment. He should be back with the Rangers early next week.

Palumbo not ready for prime time. Another long night ahead.

We'll see Shelby Miller tonight. Book it.

Surprise....

Rangers designate lefty Smyly for assignment
1:48 PM CT

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Drew Smyly struck out the last batter he faced for the Texas Rangers. That came right after the veteran left-hander, who already had lost his spot in the starting rotation, allowed three consecutive home runs in a five-pitch span.

Smyly was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Thursday, two days after his last appearance.

After not pitching in the majors the past two seasons because of Tommy John surgery, Smyly, 30, was 1-5 with an 8.42 ERA in 13 games (nine starts) with the Rangers.

"He's coming off injury, and I don't think the expectations were overly high, but I think, it honestly didn't work out,'' manager Chris Woodward said. "He was fighting to figure things out. I think it's just best for him, and honestly best for us, to just have him move on.''

Other roster moves in addition to the Smyly DFA...

Palumbo sent back to Nashville...
Kyle Bird recalled...
Locke St. John called up for the first time...
Jesse Chavez to the rotation.

A non Ranger baseball question...Are we actually supposed to believe this?

Boston Red Sox icon David Ortiz was not the intended target of the Dominican Republic shooting that left him fighting for his life earlier this month, police revealed on Wednesday.

The islands's attorney general said Ortiz's friend, Sixto David Fernandez, was the actual target in the nightclub shooting, but the gunman told police that he got confused. Fernandez and Ortiz were sitting at the same table and dressed similarly at the time of the shooting, police noted.

Ortiz previously told authorities that he didn't know who would target him.

Two questions:

1. How does anybody on that island not know who David Ortiz is?
2. Why is David Ortiz hanging with sleazy characters involved in the drug trade?

Nice win today.

Andrus/Guzman had one of the prettiest 6-3's you will ever see.

Yeah that. Especially #2. The rumor I heard was that he was fooling around with one of the GF's/wife.

I know I am biased, but I believe Ronald Guzman is a gold glove candidate.

Asdrubal Cabrera threw his batting gloves from the dugout onto the field yesterday, and he got suspended four games for that.

That's BS.

Nomar Mazara's home run in the first inning last night was determined to have traveled 505 feet. That ties the record for the longest home run since MLB started using stat cast to measure them in 2015.

It is generally accepted that the home run ever recorded was 565 feet by Mickey Mantle in 1953.

Did anyone else see the extremely long interview on Saturday night with some old time baseball player. He was in one window and the game was in another window. Crikes he just kept talking and talking very close to the camera. The announcers stopped even trying to call them game. Weird. I can't remember the man's name for the life of me.

I love his nickname: "The Condor". That's a good, old-school moniker, not something lame like, "RG".

Mazara's dinger was an absolute bomb.

Saw an interesting post on FB. The Rangers have won every bobblehead night game this season.

I saw it on Facebook so it must be true.

The result of the appeal is that Asdrubal Cabrera's suspension has been reduced from four games to three. He will sit out the Detroit series that starts tomorrow.
