Somebody Sabataged my Computer
I don't know how they did it, but at about 9pm my laptop touchpad quit and the cusor froze. I fooled with it for awhile and went to bed. When I woke up I found I could reboot into safe mode and it worked! So, it wasn't a physical problem, it had to be in the software. I found out that I could get to the diagnostic information. I decided to do a system restore from a point 2 days ago. Ran the procedure and shazam! I'm back!
Now, I'm trying to figure out, was it terrorists or the NSA?

I got something funny on my other laptop, when you do a system restore do you lose any data? What precautions should I take?

Only stuff you might have added or changed between now and your restore point.

You don't loose any information except what you were working on at the time that was not saved. You just restart with the boot information that was in effect at the date and time the restore point was set.Sangersteve wrote:Grassman wrote:I got something funny on my other laptop, when you do a system restore do you lose any data? Could be malware hidden in one of the sites you visited the day it happened.

That's what I guess. I've had the same thing happen before.LibraryLady wrote:Could be malware hidden in one of the sites you visited the day it happened.

OK, happened again about an hour ago. I had to do the restore point again. I am either getting this from a website or a virus. I'm going to run a system scan. I used Norton and it's usually pretty good.

I'm surprised Steve puts up with Norton. It's very invasive. I remove any sign of it when I purchase a computer.

Re: Somebody Sabataged my Computer
Those 15 Windows updates we got today knocked my computer for a loop. Instead of the blue screen of death, I got the black screen of death. That sucker froze up solid. Wouldn't respond to the keyboard or the power switch. However, a reboot with the power plug cured all.

After I restored it last night, it downloaded 17 updates, 6 of them failed. This morning it downloaded 7 more. I set up a new restore point so if I have to do it again I won't have to download them all again.

I used to hate it too. But, it was on this computer when I bought it and it was much better. Just works in the background and never bothers me so I kept it. Hasn't caused any problems.

When you restore, you should be getting a choice on whether you want to restore the whole kit and kaboodle or just specific things. Specific is much easier.
