OK Scotland. Go for it!
The election is about oil and who gets the revenue, Scotland or the British govt. Without Scotland's oil as collateral, the cost of govt. borrowing will skyrocket in the UK. Since the upper crust in the UK live off the govt., their standard of living will plummet. That's why everyone from the queen on down are squealing like suck pigs. Forget this silly talk about banks. If you have the oil, you have the moola and the banks will come running to you. This vote should be a no-brainer.

A lot of Scots work for the govt and are afraid of loosing their retirement. These bureaucrats are the main opposition to independence.GFB wrote:I do agree with the "no brain" part.

I think a few too many people have watched "Braveheart" over and over.

Predictions?
I think they'll stay with Great Britain, but probably +/- only 8 - 10%.
They have a lot to lose if they declare independence; they won't be allowed to join the EU or use the pound sterling as their currency (as they want to), they'll have to come up with their own defense force, etc. Too many problems for not enough gain.

Here's when other countries left the UK. They seem to be doing OK.

I'm not saying they wouldn't be OK at some point, but I am saying that they would find the next few years quite difficult in many ways. Actions like this usually have unforeseen consequences that can be beyond the power of the population or their leaders to address. But if they vote to go I wish the best to luck to everyone on both sides of the new border.

Taking a quick glance..most, not doing ok.
And none of those took 1/3 of the land mass and 10% of the population with them.

Until now the only part of the UK that has left is the Republic of Ireland.

Yeah, but according to Joan Rivers we're already being ruled by a queen.

Whew! I'm going to send that guy an email to teach him a new word: brevity!
Re: OK Scotland. Go for it!
The proposition seems to be losing by a landslide.
