when I was that age I left at 10:am and got back just in time for dinner! The days of childhood are gon due to Judges letting the child abusers off with probation!

We live in different times. I never, ever, ever, let my kids play outside without supervision. Plus, we had a swimming pool, so I had to know where they were at all times.

The world was just a better place to live 50+ years ago. No civil rights laws, no PC, no worries about ISIS and all the other terrorist groups that have arisen, leaders who knew and honored the Constitution and a hundred other reasons that come to mind.
This was America the Great. Now it’s little more than a place for misfits to gather and cry about what America “Owes” them when their “Why work for anything when the government will take care of us?” attitude kicks in. And remember that they can apply for and draw the Social Security that you paid for. And even though you and your employer paid for it, the government now calls it ‘Federal benefit payments’.
We used to manufacture what we needed, now we buy it from the foreigners who either bought the rights to make it, or stole the process and make it anyway. However they started making it, look at all the jobs that left America.
We went to wars when we were forced into them. Now we go to war to try to force our way of life, onto countries that don’t want it or don’t have the know-how, or the economy, to sustain it. Oh, and while we’re there lets tell them how much better our religion is than theirs. And we still wonder why they hate us!
It was a time when you were safe to play outside, ride your bicycle without a helmet, walk to the creek with your buddies and go swimming or fishing, hit the theatre Saturday afternoons for the latest serial episode or western movie, 10 cents admission unless you were older than 16 when it jumped to a Quarter, trade funny books at a friends without having to clear it first, maybe just leave mom and dad a note on the dinner table. They’d always see it there at the family’s main gathering place. A mother had to do something criminal then before the police were sent to her home, not because her kid was playing alone within sight of its home.
I wonder what my grandchildren will face when they are 50 years in the future and it’s hard to be too hopeful about it. I pray that I am wrong.
