I'm seeing some beautiful pits in shelters. What a pity since they are intelligent and loyal. I wish the "thugs" hadn't adopted them as a status symbol.

Ann, it takes time for a stigma to go away. The only thing they are guilty of Is "Courage Love and Try". I've been around them for more than 25 yrs and love them to the point I have been called a nut. As a matter of fact, a prior member of DD will not bring his Grandson over because I have one.

The stigma won't go away as long as the "thugs" continue to breed them to attack people, and websites continue to rank them as the worst dog for bites:

1, Pit Bull
Varieties included: Pit Bull, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American StaffordshireTerrier
Registered dogs (U.S.): 2,683
Child victims: 661
Adult victims: 519
Maimings: 819
Deaths: 159

Here's the ASPCA's statement on pitbulls:

Dancer, it's good that you're trying to raise them the right way.

Just Me, I looked at both links, and had to laugh. Remember The "Vick Dogs" ? All but one were adopted out to forever homes, some with (drum roll) KIDS. My last Male, Seminole was a bait dog I adopted. Scars on his nose and all. Cancer killed him way too early. Not all, but some I have had and known wouldn't back down from another dog but would never go on the attack. As far as mine are concerned, I'm down to one now, Annabelle Lee a beautiful Red Nose girl who is Daddys Girl. A couple more are in my future, as 2 ain't enough.
