Our old friend Elvis Andrus has signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox, and the Sox intend to use him as their everyday second baseman...

The White Sox have signed infielder Elvis Andrus to a one-year contract, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (Twitter link). The contract will become official when Andrus passes a physical, and USA Today’s Bob Nightengale adds that Andrus will earn a $3MM salary. Andrus is represented by the Boras Corporation.

Andrus returns to the south side of Chicago after hitting .271/.309/.464 over 191 plate appearances with the White Sox last season. Released by the A’s in August, the Sox quickly inked Andrus as a shortstop replacement for Tim Anderson, who ended up missing the rest of the season due to a torn hand ligament. While only over a small sample size, Andrus’ performance with the Sox marked his best offensive surge in years, as the veteran had struggled at the plate during the end of his tenure with the Rangers and for much of his two seasons in Oakland.

With Anderson now back and healthy, the White Sox will use Andrus as their regular second baseman. This is the first position change of Andrus’ 14-year MLB career, as he has exclusively played shortstop (with a handful of DH games) over his 1947 Major League games. Andrus has made exactly one professional appearance as a second baseman, and it happened way back in his first pro season of 2005 with the Braves’ rookie ball affiliate.

All the naysayers are very quiet.

My opinion: Jonah Heim is establishing himself as the best catcher in the American League. I love the way this kid plays the game.

You can usually count on Sborz and Leclerc to yank defeat from the jaws of victory.

The entire bullpen sucks. If this team continues to win despite the bullpen, then management must add at least three bullpen arms at the deadline to give them a chance down the stretch.

Can I say it again?

This bullpen sucks!!!

Somebody needs to tell Bochy that Will Smith is NOT a major league closer. Somebody needs to tell the organization that Leclerc needs to figure out his issues at Round Rock. Somebody needs to tell the rotation that they better plan to pitch nine innings if they want a win.

That was a ridiculous waste of Dane Dunning's start.

Eovaldi went 8 scoreless last night, and the offense delivered a 10 run lead to the bullpen.

Well done.

I don't know if Bochy ever planned for Eovaldi to pitch the ninth, but the Rangers run explosion in the eighth took a long time and it was probably best not to send him back out.

As soon as Eovaldi went back to the dugout after the 8th, he was getting high fives from everybody. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't going back out there for the 9th, regardless of what happened in the top of 9th. He was over 100 pitches.

Derek Holland, a longtime Texas Rangers fan favorite, is making a comeback with an independent team in Pennsylvania. The 36-year-old lefty will be pitching for the York Revolution in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

Leclerc tried to torch one today, but Will Smith cleaned up his mess and got a five out save.

My Texas Rangers are to be commended...

They are — quite literally — the Lone Rangers.

While other MLB teams drape their stadiums in the rainbow flag each June, the Rangers stick with the one-star, Texas banner. They are the only team in baseball that doesn’t host an LGBTQ Pride Night.

After a mini slump the Rangers are back on track.
