I went to the game with Mrs. Jello, Jello Jr., and the Jello IIIA and IIIB. Here's the way I saw it: The first two batters hit bloops that barely made it out of the infield. Scherzer may have tried to get too fine after that, and walked the next two batters on full counts (IIRC), then gave up a grounder that found its way through. Like you said, after that, he was nuts.

Both had an exit velocity of less than 65 mph.

Montgomery did likewise. Rough first inning but settled down after that.

Bad news that Josh Jung has to have surgery on his fractured thumb. Freak injury handling a line drive.

This bullpen is truly awful...

The Rangers completed a 9 game road trip tonight that included 6 blown saves by 5 different pitchers.

This road series has been painful to watch. I believe that's two walk off walks in a week.

[sigh]

Scherzer gave us six one hit innings, and then the bullpen did what they do.

As good as this team has been for most of the season, they are now only 1.5 games ahead of the Blue Jays for the final wild card slot. Job one this winter needs to be to build a bullpen from scratch.

Bochy has to take some blame for pulling Scherzer while he was cruising. But the offense needs to step it up. This bullpen can't hold a one run lead.

Absolutely...

Scherzer was only at 88 pitches. He had another two innings in him.

And everybody on this offense knows we can't win 2-1 or 3-2 games with this bullpen. The hitters need to go into every game with the expectation of scoring 6.

Where is Adolis Garcia? He hit .206 in August.

In the last 28 days, Garcia is hitting .159 with 37 strikeouts in 88 at bats.

Last night, it was Aroldis Chapman that couldn't get anybody out in the 10h inning.

Rangers lose again. Seattle won, so the Rangers are now two games back of the top spot they've held most of the season.

The Rays, Astros, and Blue Jays all lost, so nothing changed in the Wild Card race. The Rangers are still 1.5 games ahead of the Blue Jays for the final Wild Card slot.

So what is the difference in winning the division and winning the third Wild Card slot? If the Rangers win the West, they will most likely get a first round bye, and hold home field advantage in the Division Series. If they get the final Wild Card slot, they will play the Twins on the road in the Wild Card round....the same Twins they've shown no ability to beat the past two weekends.

The meltdown continues. We've probably seen the last of Sborz.

We get Eovaldi back tonight...

The unfortunate part is that there isn't any chance he can go 9 innings, so there is little chance to win the game.

Bochy simply has nobody to turn to in this awful bullpen.

The starting pitching has been very good, but if my cyphering is correct, the relievers have 28 blown saves.

Sborz has been put on the 15-day injured list.
Otto has been designated for assignment.
Bochy has been quick with the hook lately, so I don't expect Eovaldi to be a factor in the outcome.

Every time we say that they have played their worst game of the season, they say hold my beer.

Eovaldi wasn't ready. How did Bochy and Maddux not know that?

Ranger All-Stars since the All-Star game...

Marcus Semien: Has mostly played well, though not to the level of his May-June performance
Corey Seager: Has delivered MVP level performance except for a brief 10 day stay on the DL
Josh Jung: Injured
Johan Heim: Injured, trying to now to play himself back into shape
Adolis Garcia: Also participated in the homerun derby, and has slumped horribly since the All-Star break
Nathan Eovaldi: Injured

5 of our 6 All-Stars haven't delivered since the break. That's how a team goes from the second best record in baseball to completely out of the playoffs...

That, and the worst bullpen in baseball...

I think this team has horrible coaching for the pitchers. I wasn't all that impressed with Maddux his first time around. I wasn't thrilled when they brought him back. I think this organization does a poor job of evaluating pitchers and coaching pitchers to make them better.

The Rangers shipped out Cole Ragans in the trade for Aroldis Chapman. The Royals did nothing more than alter Ragans' pitch mix, and he's been lights out for them. That's a perfect example of how Rangers coaches failed a pitcher.

I'd like to see a complete overhaul of the entire organizational approach to pitching this winter. We need new personnel.
