GOODBYE PENNY?

Postby GRANDPA » Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:44 pm

DOGE says they are taking a look at getting rid of the penny. It costs something $3.27 to make each one (just kidding). The nickel doesn't seem to be much better. Besides, the back of the penny looks like play money.

When the U.S. abandoned the half-penny in 1857, it had more than the value of a dime today. The idea of ditching the penny has been around for decades. It's time.

The penny has more intrinsic value than a $1,000 bill.

Dumb. I'll be happy to convert all of your $1K bills to pennies.

I was referring to the original copper penny. I don't know what they are made of anymore.

They are mostly zinc now. The last all-copper penny was produced in 1857.

Good riddance. It costs 3.07 cents to make a penny. It costs 2.8 cents to produce a $1 bill.

Let's get rid of that, too.

While we’re at it let’s get rid of DST, or just get rid of standard time. I really don’t care which one. Pick one and leave it. Like the Ronco chicken cooker. Set it and forget it.

As long as everyone is on the same page, all DST or all ST. Pick one, then leave it alone. My preference is standard time, but I can live with either. I wish Trump would issue an executive order banning sporks & those scrawny little useless stir sticks, too.

It’s my understanding that you can blame Colonel Sanders for sporks.

We should return to the only legal, constitutional money, silver and gold. And add copper too. Fiat money allows the govt. to spend however much they want without taxing it and finances all of the wars.
