Trump voters, are you sure this is what you wanted?

Postby planosteve » Wed Feb 12, 2025 2:36 pm

No one can fault Donald Trump for failing to accomplish at least one of the things he promised while he was a candidate: disruption.

But is it too much? A MAGA friend assures me that Trump’s 77 million voters approve of his actions so far and that they are not having second thoughts.

But I wonder. If, before the election, Trump had described some of the actions that he’s taken during the first weeks of his administration, would all of his voters have marked their ballots for Trump?

There are several ways to approach this question, but consider Gaza. What if, before Nov. 5, Trump had said that the United States was going to take over Gaza from Israel; deport 2 million Gazans, using U.S. troops, if necessary; level the place; and then construct the “Riviera of the Middle East”? Would all of those 77 million Americans have still voted for him?

Of course, last November most Americans were more concerned about the price of eggs and gas than about Gaza. Trump attracted many voters with his promise of near-immediate relief from the pain of President Joe Biden’s inflation.

But what if Trump had said that as soon as he was inaugurated he planned to impose massive tariffs, not only on our adversaries, but on our allies and biggest trading partners?

What if, before we voted, he had said what he said on Feb. 3: “WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!) BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID.”?
Make America Great Again. Impeach Trump! :P

Yep. Pretty darn sure...

I’ve got no doubt that the “all MAGA all the time” voters love this.

That’s what’s disturbing about the MAGA voters.

They’re quite dumb.
If you're MAGA, you're eat up with the DUMBASS!

I can’t disagree with the first part of your post.

I don’t really understand what you’re saying in the second part.

The democrats have the task of defending the waste of billions of tax dollars.

The only thing they can come up with is Elon is mean, Trump is mean.

Their next move will be to try and convince the public that all that waste is good for the economy

So I guess that means I'm too stupid to understand that throwing away money is a good thing.

So please stand with the democrats proving that billions in waste, fraud, and abuse is OK.

Then tell me that we're too stupid to understand.

I never called anyone stupid. I said dumb. However, I apologize. Even that may be too harsh. Perhaps I should have said “gullible”.

I am dismayed by some of the stuff he is doing. I can't see the Gulf of America, making Canada the 51st state (what, the provinces become counties?), annexing Greenland, & taking back the Panama Canal as anything other than rhetorical stunts. Mar-a-Gaza is the stupidest idea since Flat Earthers got their own FB page. The tariffs against Canada & Mexico will do nothing but hurt us. He thinks they won't retaliate? Granted, he may be only using talk of tariffs as a negotiating tool, but it sure seems an unnecessary sledge hammer. I did NOT vote for him three times for shit like this.

Most of those things are Trump trying to get the world to behave, have not happened, and won’t need to.

Trump wasted his first 4 years fiddle farting around during the great COVID fraud. He never did figure out what was going on. That opened the door for the Biden disaster. Now he's only got 4 years left. That's probably not enough time to do much even if he does the right things finally. Hopefully, he can get us out of
the Ukraine war. But, that's about all we can expect.

"doing stuff" is meaningless. It will take a long time to judge whether what he did was right or not and whether it was successful or not.

Most of us already know what is right.

..like closing the border to illegals and keeping men out of women’s sports and locker rooms.

And the economy boomed in Trump's first three years, only to be derailed by COVID. And that's in spite of the unprecedented opposition, lawfare, frivolous impeachments, etc..., by the unprincipled Dems.

The Dems are really shooting themselves in the foot with their hysterical and petulant protests and opposition.

If they were to say something like, "Yes, there are some serious problems: let's work on those together. But we object to these items, for these reasons, and we would like to sit down with the President and talk about them", or something like that, people might see their opposition as reasonable. Instead, they are only hysterically wailing to their brain-dead base, using the same tactics that lost them the last election.

Sure, some of the things Trump is doing won't work out (I don't know what those things are, but there are so many, there are bound to be a few). However, actually reducing fraud and waste instead of just whining about it every now and then is HUGE, and the majority of people are supportive. If Trump and the Musk team are able to pare down the waste and fraud in Medicare and Social Security and extend the life of those programs, it's all over for the Dems. And I think that's what they are worried about: If Trump is successful, they are doomed. Party over country.
